We seek to provide opportunities for our community to serve in a real way, encountering the needs of our city and shifting the landscape of poverty in Calgary. Whether for kids, youth, working professionals, or the retired, you can find a place to serve here.

Career
Development

Unemployment is one of the biggest factors contributing to homelessness and addiction.

In partnership with our friends at Calgary Dream Centre, Westside leads a Career Development Program to serve those struggling in our city. Become a part of hosting a 7 week rotating course, every Wednesday, to educate and train homeless men in essential skills needed to secure and maintain a job – the first step toward a new future!

Email abedford@wkc.org for more information.

House Builds

Westside partners with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for vulnerable families right here in Calgary. We are also a leader in the interfaith build initiative, bringing together various faith communities to raise $1 million and build homes for 12 struggling families in Calgary.

Join a team of Westsiders giving a day to help in the construction of a home for one vulnerable family right here in Calgary. Volunteers must be 18+ years of age, and no building experience is required. Hard hats and protective gear are provided on the day, but bring your own lunch.

Family Serve

At Westside we will believe that whatever stage you are at in life, you should have the opportunity to discover the significance of serving God’s heart in real ways.

Every two months we create local opportunities for parents and kids to serve, learn and grow together. These are short and fun ways for families to engage with the needs in our city, and to explore together the value of a life of service.

Watch this space for upcoming Family Serve opportunities, or email servelocal@wkc.org to get on the database for information about future events.

All of us walk through difficult moments in our lives, and we need the support of community. At Westside, we are committed to being involved in the lives of those in need in our own neighbourhood and city. Ruth’s Hands is our Community Care program, through which we seek to provide support to individuals and families who have fallen into crisis or need.

How we can help you: After telling us about your situation, we will connect you with one of our dedicated team of professionals and trained volunteers. From there, we respond by providing anything from basic meals to childcare, or connecting you with our professional associates in the city to provide counselling, housing support, employment advice and other services right for you.

Westside is partnering with organizations to mentor young women who are either exiting exploitation, or low-income new mothers seeking to finish their high school education. Hear about how you can engage with Next Step Ministries or Catholic Family Services to provide support, friendship, and counsel to a vulnerable young woman in our city.
