A Room Full of Differents : Honour and Love
One life, with each other
One life, but we’re not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other. Bono
...so in Christ we, though many, form one body... Romans 12:5
This title’s not a typo but an observation that any real church of Jesus is inevitably made up of people who are different from each other, and in any number of ways. Still, though we are different, together we make up the one body of Christ.
A recent study of a typical first-century church reveals that it was likely made up of a rag-tag collection of craft-workers, family members, slaves, and homeless people who met wherever there was room. Although united by one thing – their common faith – do any of us honestly think there wouldn’t have been tensions and differences to work through? Not likely. So why form a new community? Why be a church? Now that’s the question we want to wrestle with.
